We are pleased once again to sponsor our annual free CLE event where you will hear practical
tips from members of the bar and bench to help you become more persuasive. We are delighted this
year to present a panel consisting of members from Federal Court, Appellate Court, Circuit Court, and Law
School Professor along with lawyers from the Plaintiff's and Defense bar and several
mediators. This seminar will energize and encourage us as we "continue the tradition" of lawyers
helping lawyers in a relaxed setting designed to be educational and enjoyable.
Friday, April 16, 2010 - THE PROGRAM
Moderator: Travis Berry, Wright, Berry & Moore. P.A.
12:30 Registration
1-2 p.m. "The Client"
The ability to influence the client to hire you only starts the process. The section will look at ideas that will help you maintain control of your case from initial contact to conclusion. The panelist will address the benefits of the lawyers maintaining the ability to persuade no matter which hat we are wearing at the time.
Chris Heil - The Brad Hendricks Law Firm
JP Jaynes - Mediator
Frank Hamlin - Mediator
2-3 p.m. "The Jury"
The Closing argument is the time to bring it all together and show your power of persuasion. But you may have already lost! Trial Management software can help you maintain credibility with the jury. Technology changes daily and you can learn how one recent change in the "the black box" has information about the vehicle you never knew existed. The art of "putting it all together" will make you more persuasive and effective.
Daniel Gilbreath - Gilbreath Law Firm
Joel Hoover - Newland & Associates PLLC
John Phelps - Womack, Landis, Phelps & McNeill
3-4 p.m. "The Power of the Pen"
The power to persuade using the written word is as important at the trial court level as the appellate court. The panelist consisting of lawyer, instructor, and Judge will examine written arguments and help you understand what Judges want to hear. Judicial surveys have been completed and will be discussed.
Rodney Moore - Wright, Berry, & Moore
Federal Judge Leon Holmes
Ken Gould - UALR Law School
4-5 p.m. "Other Lawyers" (Ethics)
The practice of law is inherently competitive but
does not have to be combative. This section will
delight all of us as we share a time with our friends
on the benefit of being candid in the profession
that makes a difference in the lives of the people
we represent.
Judge Bynum Gibson - Circuit Judge
Judge Jim Gunter - Arkansas Supreme Court
John Mercy - Mercy, Carter and Tidwell, L.L.P.
This event is sponsored by Wright, Berry & Moore, P.A, and has been approved by the Supreme Court committee for 4.0 hours of CLE. We appreciate the cooperation of the speakers of this years' program. We would not be able to make this annual event possible without the volunteers each and every year. We invite your thoughts on future programs!
We are proud to be lawyers and hope you will join us in a celebration that emphasizes the tradition of excellence in trial work. This is the 31st year of the annual Gar Gig Regatta and you are invited to join us early Friday morning for some fishing on the Ouachita River. The CLE could be interrupted by target practice and will be followed by a live band and the traditional shrimp and crawfish boil.
